Meet the New NHL Team!

By Zoe Hopkins

Have you heard of the new hockey team? In the past few months, the NHL and its Board of Governors approved to add a new expansion team in Las Vegas. They will be the 31st team in the league and will start playing in the 2017-18 season. The Las Vegas team will belong to the Pacific division with the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, Arizona Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.

The team already has a general manager, who is in charge of building the team, but they don't have a name yet. Las Vegas used to have a hockey team in the East Coast Hockey League called the Wranglers, maybe they could bring that back.

Bill Foley is a billionaire that owns the team and had to pay a $500 million expansion fee to bring the first professional sports team to the city. When they told him the price  and how much it was, he flinch not one bit. You want to know why he did flinch, here is the reason why; he is a billionaire so he did care about it he will still have money left over. Plus he will make some money when his team wins.

T-Mobile Arena, which opened in April, is where the team will play. In the arena there are 17,500 seats and there are 44 luxury suites. Luxury sweets are when you have your own spot were you do not have to worry about being with the crowd. You can get free food from in there and drinks two. You also have a lounge area.

The big question is how will they get all of the seats full. That is the big question because  even though Vegas is a big city, how many people are going to skip on the casino to go to a game? They did had a season ticket drive and had a very solid number of people show interest in season tickets, which is a good thing. Time will tell if it is a good move fore the league, but I bet that you will love it just like me and a lot of people.
